Important Announcement:
The Future of the Palace Theatre

Palace Theatre Light First, a bit of historical perspective to set the scene: When the Palace Theatre in Silverton first opened in 1936, it was a 'state of the art' movie theatre. The latest in projection systems, the best available sound system - in a building designed and constructed from the ground up to be a perfect getaway from real life to drama, comedy, fantasy and adventure.

In 1954, as film and projection technology took a quantum leap forward from standard to wide screen CinemaScope and magnetic stereophonic sound, the Palace upgraded with a major remodel, installed a gigantic 40-foot screen, brand new MotioGraph projectors and an Altec/Motiograph Mirrophonic S-100 sound system to stay at the cutting edge of film exhibition technology and provide a great entertainment value to theatre patrons.

In 1975 we installed a Dolby optical stereo sound system - another quantum leap in film sound reproduction providing full surround stereo plus noise reduction. The Palace's historic reputation of best cinema technology and affordable pricing continued.

Since then we've kept up with modern film technology - DTS Digital Sound, new high pressure Xenon projection light source, Christie platter system, new seats, new screen, new high-power amplifiers, new speakers, the list goes on and on.

Now we're coming to the next quantum leap in movie technology - Full Digital..... Thomas Edison's amazing twin inventions of the motion picture camera and projector have finally reached the point of obsolescence. Film, and I mean real 'film' that's 35 millimeters wide and about a mile and a half long for the average picture we play at the Palace, is going away - being replaced by digitally delivered motion pictures.

This is simultaneously an exciting and scary time for us. The prospect of offering you the newest in Hollywood's "First Run" entertainment with full digital sound and picture is exciting. The scary part is that the world economy is shaky and this is a major investment for us to make for your entertainment. We all have choices to make - right now we have the option of either closing the Palace in 2012 because we won't have access to conventional 35 millimeter film any more - or forging ahead with the conversion to a fully Digital Cinema. Going ahead with the Digital conversion will cost just a shade less than $100,000 - and for us, that's a lot of money in a bad economy.

We are pleased to report that after much pencil sharpening and anguish we have made the decision to proceed with the full-digital conversion of Silverton's classic Palace Theatre. We'll be offering you even more First Run attractions with big, bright digital images and superb multi-channel digital surround sound. We are committed to the future of entertainment in Silverton!

You need to know that when we convert to Full Digital, our low admission prices will have to rise a bit to cover the cost of the new equipment and installation. We'll still be the best entertainment value around, it'll just be a buck or two more to get in the door and perhaps a few more pennies for your Milk Duds. Not a big deal, but I want to be up-front with you. Not only will the Palace remain a Silverton tradition, we'll also be adding closed captioning, better sound and even the future capability for 3D viewing and 4K image reproduction!

So now, after all that, the point of this email: We're asking you to reassure us that we've made the right choice. This is an opportunity for you to 'lock in' our current $4 bargain price for your movie entertainment at the Palace.

We are creating a special "Golden 25" Palace Prepaid punch card which we will be selling for $100 each. You get the current $4 "Bargain" price into the digital future if you'll buy 25 admissions in advance before December 24th. These special Golden Edition Palace Prepaid punch cards will be good any time, any show. Bring as many people as you want, one person per punch.

These will be a great gift item for the movie buff in the family, or for that person on your list who is just so hard to find a suitable 'stocking stuffer' for.

The "Golden 25" Palace Prepaid punch cards are a "Limited Edition" and are available now at the theatre during open hours, at Zebra Print (417 N. Water) on weekdays or by mail to the Zebra Print address. Credit cards cheerfully accepted.
